In New York City, the Medicare Rights Center provides personal counseling services at 3 senior centers every week. Our clients at these senior centers, many of whom have both Medicare and Medicaid, benefit from our expertise right in their local communities, and in their own language.

Our counselors help people with Medicare understand their drug plan options, screen and enroll them in low-income programs, and help with other Medicare-related issues.

Seniors Out Speaking on Medicare (SOS Medicare)

The SOS Medicare (Seniors Out Speaking on Medicare) program in New York City is modeled after our award-winning program in Westchester County, NY. The NYC SOS Medicare program mobilizes trained volunteers to educate and counsel their peers about Medicare issues in their own communities.

Each volunteer is paired with a specific senior center, which he or she visits once a month. Volunteers give a brief presentation—a "Medicare Minute"—on a different topic each month, and are available to answer their peers' questions.

Presentations for People with Medicare and Caregivers

The Medicare Rights Center's experts go to local communities to give presentations to people with Medicare, their caregivers and other consumers. Some groups who have requested presentations are senior centers, community-based organizations, hospitals (for their patients), and unions (for their members).

If your group is located in the New York City area and would like to have a presentation by an expert from the Medicare Rights Center, contact the Director of Volunteer and Community Services.
