Hotline Volunteers

Our hotline volunteers are based in our New York City offices, where they assist people with Medicare through one-on-one telephone counseling.

Volunteers answer callers' questions and provide guidance on a wide range of Medicare issues—from how to select a supplemental plan to how to deal with a claim that has been denied. They also help ensure that their clients' rights are upheld, and make referrals when appropriate.

Seniors Out Speaking on Medicare (SOS Medicare) Volunteers

Volunteers in the Seniors Out Speaking on Medicare (SOS Medicare) program visit senior centers, religious institutions, public housing projects, clubs and other sites throughout New York City. At each visit, they present a "Medicare Minute," a short lecture about an important health care topic, and provide Medicare counseling.

Enrollment Volunteers

Help people with Medicare who live on limited incomes access benefits theyre entitled to.

Medicare health and prescription drug coverage cost money. Most people with Medicare pay monthly premiums, as well as copays or coinsurances and deductibles for most medical services and prescription drugs. For people with limited incomes, these costs can keep them from receiving the care they need.

There are various programs available to people with limited incomes that help pay for Medicare. Enrollment volunteers support the efforts of our staff, who screen thousands of callers every year for these programs.

Consumer Action Board Members

counselorsOur Consumer Action Board (CAB) is composed of community leaders throughout the United States who are committed to the principle that all Americans should have access to affordable, high-quality health care.

CAB members are especially knowledgeable and passionate about the issues that affect the Medicare community—not just because they care deeply about health care in America, but also because each member is a person with Medicare.

The CAB serves as a national voice for people with Medicare, communicating practical policy positions to local communities, the media, policymakers and elected officials. It works hand-in-hand with our staff to strengthen the voice of consumers in local, state and national health care policy. CAB members write letters to elected officials or local papers, testify at hearings, speak to the press, and more.

The Consumer Action Board currently has vacancies for the following states:

Alabama, Alaska, Arkansas, Delaware, Florida, Georgia, Hawaii, Idaho, Kentucky, Massachusetts, Michigan, Montana, Nevada, New Hampshire, New Jersey, New Mexico, North Dakota, Oklahoma, Rhode Island, South Carolina, Utah and Wyoming.

Contact us if you're a person with Medicare from one of these states, and are interested in applying for a position on the Consumer Action Board.
