Health Issues

There is a number of frightening health statistics for the Ramecchap district that may be remedied by access to basic health care and information:

  • 33.33% of children under 5 years are affected by acute respiratory infection
  • 20% of children under 5 years are affected by diarrhoea
  • 8.2% of children are malnourished (weight for age)
  • 73.5% of children under 5 years suffer from chronic malnourishment (stunting)
  • 10% of children die before the age of 5 years
  • 5% of children die in infancy
  • 11.2% of infants are delivered by community health workers

The five highest causes of death are:

  • acute respiratory illness
  • skin disease
  • diarrhoeal disease
  • intestinal worms
  • gastritis

  • dressing, care and treatment for minor wounds
  • infection control
  • immunisations
  • pregnancy testing and monitoring
  • reproductive health information
  • nutritional and sanitation information
  • referrals
